“Beautiful things happen when we distance ourselves from the negative.”

I recently read this quote, and I think it’s very true. However, it is not often easy to do. Like everything in work and life, it requires discipline and process.

Negative thinking (fear, doubt, worry) is very real and very powerful. It’s often our first line of defense when we are facing change. Sometimes, it’s even our first line of defense when we don’t feel  like getting out of bed in the morning!

Did you know that the average person has a negative thought every 2 ½ minutes?? And, many of us are above average.

Step one in the process of managing negative thinking (and harnessing its power) is to give yourself permission to feel this way. Don’t beat yourself up over it. It’s a natural response.

It’s what you do with your thoughts from here forward that counts.

More about that in posts to come.

But for now—don’t be so hard on yourself.
