What is the definition of confidence?

There are so many definitions of confidence. Here are just 2 for starters. They appeared when I googled the question:

“Confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something.”

“Confidence is an expectation of a positive outcome.”

People have often asked me what my definition of confidence is, so here goes:

Confidence is your belief in your ability to be OK—safe, secure, successful—regardless of outcome. It sparks you to take action, and motivates you to keep going, in spite of difficulty.

You see, it’s not so much the definition that matters. When it comes to confidence, it’s not the saying—it’s the doing!

You won’t find the real meaning of confidence until you do the opposite of what your anxiety dictates. Until you take a risk.

And, once you do, and come out on the other side of it—safe, secure and successful—you’ll know the true definition.
