Why wait?

As women, we’re trained to wait

To be passive, not aggressive

Like ladies-in-waiting

Never telling, always suggesting

We wait for approval

We wait for affection

We wait to be asked out

We wait for perfection

We wait for prince charming

We wait for proposals

We often wait so long to be loved

It’s alarming

We wait for that raise

We wait for promotion

We wait to meet all the criteria

Of that job opening

We need to stop being ladies-in-waiting

To stop doubting our self worth

And to stop hesitating

To know that we’re beautiful

Without being told

To live the life we’re meant to

That is confident and bold!

Dedicated to my beautiful niece, Natalie, on her college graduation, with love.
