Sending your children off to college for the first time.

I have been noticing a growing focus on Facebook: Many of my friends are seeing their children off to college for the first time. There is a great deal of pride mixed with a lot of sadness and a sense of loss. And, even though I have no children, it can be heartbreaking to read their posts.

After all, it is a big change, and this blog is all about helping people with change.

One piece of advice I can offer is for both you and your child to remember that you’ve been through change many times before and have triumphed: First time at school. First bicycle ride. First date. First kiss. First part-time job.

So, be confident that you will get through this too. Before you know it, 4 years will pass, and more new and exciting changes will come.

I’d also like to share this lovely piece that one of my friends posted. It was written by Michael Gerson for The Washington Post.

I hope you find it helpful!

Saying goodbye to my child, the younger

Good luck to all you parents out there, and welcome to a brave new world for you and your children!
