30-Second Cure for Anxiety: Talk yourself up!

I am having a truly anxious week this week, and it’s only Tuesday morning!

Even though fighting fear is one my specialties, even I have to remind myself of the following rule to get myself into a more calm and confident place. I offer it to you as well:

Be compassionate to yourself. Be your own best friend.

For most of us, it’s easier to be compassionate to others, but not to ourselves. If we heard a close friend talk badly about him/herself, we would defend that person and say it’s not true. We would comfort them with kind and supportive words.

We need to be able to do this for ourselves.

Speak to yourself as though you were speaking to your own best friend. Be compassionate to yourself. Use those same convincing words and be supportive—to you.

What you say when you talk to yourself makes all the difference.

So make it great. Stop beating yourself up. Start talking yourself up instead!

I know I will!
