Recently, an entrepreneur I’ve been advising was looking to take her business to the next level. She’s been developing a fascinating (and very intricate) website for years.
Like many entrepreneurs, she has been immersed in her work: completely focused on improving the site’s functionality and content. Except for speaking with me, she rarely makes time for looking up from her computer equipment.
I could see she was beginning to lose her people skills—so critical in building a successful business. I knew she could find answers by speaking with people who have been in similar situations. So, I made some introductions, and weeks later, received a call of gratitude.
She was thrilled that she was beginning to see things in a new light–to get support and answers. I could see that she was finally looking up at the world around her, instead of the looking down in isolation all the time.
Of course I thought of this today—on a Sunday—when outside my window, there’s a beautiful New York autumn day beckoning. As soon as I post this, I am headed outside!
We all need to look up as often as possible: To meet new people. To reconnect with friends. To have a conversation.
To appreciate the world around us.
So–what are you doing today?
