Like you, I am no stranger to fear, doubt and anxiety—especially in the workplace.
I began my career as a receptionist for CBS-TV at the age of 19, and worked my way up to Vice President at Sony Music at 38. People have always told me that my journey symbolizes the American Dream. When I look back on my career now, I can see why they think that. But, it didn’t always feel that way to me. Hindsight is always 20/20, isn’t it? Well, this site is to help you gain a better perspective of yourself.
For me, there was no magic bullet. Initially, it wasn’t my own confidence that pushed me forward. It was everyone else’s confidence in me that did.
Confidence is a belief in yourself and your abilities. Some say it’s loving yourself no matter what. Confidence is something that, as a leader, coach, and mentor, I have instilled in others easily for years, but internally, I struggled.
So, if you struggle with issues in the workplace–especially confidence—then you’re in the right place. And you are not alone. Google “more confidence at work,” and you will find millions of results. Everyone wants to feel more valuable and less vulnerable in the workplace.
I’ve helped people improve their skills and confidence for over three decades, and here are a few key points to get you started:
1) The rate of change in the world of work has never been this fast. Most people view this as anxiety producing; some think it’s exhilarating. However you see it, the more grounded you are in your own abilities to navigate change, the better off you’ll be.
2) Confidence comes from self control. You cannot control what happens to you. The only thing you can control is you—your thoughts and how you react to things.
3) No one succeeds alone—no one. Success is always a team effort. Whether it’s your family, friends, co-workers, coach, book, article or even a site like this—we all need support. I would like this blog to be a team effort: a collaboration between you and me.
